It's become a tradition to write this up on days with a high of 6 below, so here we go....

The Players:
81 players entered a monthly event since July, and they were.... Ben T, Ben K, Bob T, Brad A, Brad S, Branden A, Bruce VanB, Carlos S, Chad K, Chad Z, Chris M, Clif H, Eric B, Dan D, Daniel V, Dave G, Dave H, Dave P, Dave H, Deb PK, Dillon A, Doug R, Doug W, Garrett T, Gary S, Gene M, Gunnar K, Ira K, Jared W, James R, Jason B, Jeff C, Jeff D, Jim F, Jim W, Joe M, John B, John W, Josh N, Kim K, Luke B, Matt Hem, Matt Hel, Matt W, Mattie K, Melissa G, Mike B, Mike E, Mike P, Myles M, Nate O, Nate W, Nick E, Nick W, Owen C, Phil G, Ray H, Rick B, Roger L, Ron V, Scott L, Scott N, Skip S, Steve L, Steve M, Stu S, Taylor M, Tim H, TJ T, Tom B, Tom D, Tom H, Tony Ma, Tony Mi, Trevan S, Tristin H, Vern M, Wayne A, Wes H, William W III, Zach S

Special thanks to the 29 players in bold who attended three or more monthlies since July. This tournament has been a highlight of midwest foosball because our local turnouts are so strong.

The Tourneys:

July - 40 players
BYP Champs: Nate W/Deb PK (18 teams)
Minute 2 Win It Singles Champ: Steve M (13 players)
Countdown DYP Champs: Steve M/Melissa G (10 teams)

Late BYP Finalists: Krink/Dave P, Ringo/Tom D (17 teams)

September - 23 players
BYP Champs: L-Bob/Nate O (9 teams)

NorCal DYP Champs: Ben T/Chris M (9 teams)

October - 29 players
BYP Champs: Gummy/Brazil (13 teams)

Goalie's Delight DYP Finalists: Skip S/Wallis, John W/Tom D (10 teams)

November - 34 players; Guest TD: EB
BYP Champs: Tristin H/Chris M (15 teams)
Singles Champ: TJ T (10 players)
Lott's Revenge DYP Champs: EB/Nate O (11 teams)

December - 32 players
BYP Champs: Dillon A/Stu S (15 teams)
Draft DYP Finalists: Brad S/Nate O, Krink/Zach S (12 teams)
Minute-to-Win-It Singles Champ: Ira K (4 players)

Power Rankings:
Points system:
BYP Placing: 1st: (5pts), 2nd: (4pts), 3rd: (3pts), 4th: (2pts)
Follow-Up Placing: 1st: (4pts), 2nd: (3pts), 3rd: (2pts), 4th: (1pt)
Interim/No-Conflict Event Placing: 1st (2pts) 2nd (1pt) (+1 for 10 or more players)
Ties go to the player with more 1st place finishes.

July-Dec:
1. Nate O (23)
2. Chris M (23)
3. Chad K (23)
4. Tristin H (17)
5. Brad S (16)
6. Zach S (15)
7.William W III (14)
8. Dave P (14)
9. Skip S (13)
10. Stu S (10)

That three-way tie was tougher to parse than an NFL playoff seeding...it nearly went to 'strength of schedule' as all three players had a BYP win this season. Nate O also had Goalie War and Johnny Lott wins and a draft split, Chris also had Singles Triathlon and NorCal DYP wins, and Krink had BYP and Draft splits. Congrats on a great season to all three of my MN Cup teammates (was I lucky to have them on my team or what?).

2017 Final Power Rankings:

1. Nate O (24) (23) 47
2. Chris M (13) (23) 36
3. Tristin H (17) (17) 34
4. Chad K (10) (23) 33
5. Tom B (24) (9) 33
6. Dave G (24) (8) 32
7. Ringo (24) (6) 30
8. Skip S (17) (13) 30
9. William W (15) (14) 29
10. John W (19) (9) 28

Ending Tristin's two year streak of Mort's Monthly dominance (though Tristin still came in at an impressive third for the year), is Minneapolis' own tic-tac-ing brick wall Nate O. Nate has been getting it done all year long in a variety of events, on multiple teams, as both forward and goalie. Make this guy a pro already! Congrats Nate!
Congrats also to Chris M on a great year and 2nd place in the rankings. He just missed the top ten in the first half of the year (at number 11) but with a second half surge he overtook his bring partner, Tristin, for the number 2 spot.

Thanks to all the players for a great 2017.
This was our best year for tournament foosball in recent memory....
- Highest average Monday turnouts (averaging double digits).
- Highest average Wednesday turnouts (averaging above 20).
- Highest average Monthly turnouts (averaging above 30).
- Largest Thanksgiving draw since 2009.

We could take it even farther in 2018 with your help.

Get Involved:
Any peeps interested in helping grow the scene through any of the following ventures feel free to contact me, or just let us know what you've got cooking:
--- Find/Start new venues ---
- Although foosball will still have a home at Mortimers in 2018, with a drop in parking and table numbers, we strongly need to add other venues to our scene. Please contact the management of any public venue that you think would be fun to see add foosball (bars, tap rooms bowing alleys, pool halls, etc). If they express interest, I'm happy to be involved.

- Joining as a tournament director: Co-TD-ing a monthly, joining our group of Monday Night TD's, or helping TD at another venue (The Village?, Punch Bowl Social?, ???).
- League? (This is really the next things I'd like to run)
- Foos merch
- Youth promotions (table donations? youth events?)
- College promotions (at U of M or elsewhere)
- Website/Social Media content
- Craft Brew Tap Room Foos (Metro beer lovers: these places have room for tables!)
